Meet the Maker

The Design Craft was founded by Greta Penney, a designer and artist whose work reflects a lifelong fascination with pattern, color, and material. Growing up in Algiers and Cairo, she was surrounded by the geometry of North African and Ottoman decorative arts, shaped by centuries of Maghrebi, Turkish, and Persian influence, including tilework, lattice, and textiles that continue to inform her sense of structure and design.

Her design vocabulary developed through years spent working in Hong Kong, New York City, and Spain, where she combined a love of modernism and global design traditions. Her work often bridges geometric and colorful modernism with midcentury sensibility, resulting in patterns that feel both timeless and current.

In addition to her design practice, she is an artist who has exhibited at the Museo Tamayo in Mexico City and the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, and has performed as a visual artist and VJ at international festivals including Benicàssim in Spain.

Now based in Florida, she continues to design and create from her studio bungalow, drawn to the area’s light, color, and coastal beauty. The Design Craft brings together her background in art, design, and arts education, reflecting decades of experience in creative practice and teaching. The result is a collection of contemporary, eco-friendly paper goods and prints made for people who value design that is thoughtful, modern, and lasting.
